Misery [Maroon 5] - Matthew Jordan

I received an email from a blog-stumbler-uponner that suggested I look into this video. I was definitely not disappointed! The cover is of the new single from Maroon 5 - Misery. Matthew Jordan goes beyond just covering the song -- he put together a music video for it! It is quite well done, and certainly one of the best video covers I have seen. Please watch and enjoy! Thanks again, blog-stumbler!

Monday Morning Piano Moment: My Chemical Romance - Cancer

This is a great song with a great message. I am glad that My Chemical Romance wrote a song like this. It is a nice departure from some of their other music (which I also like). Their live shows are apparently very good. They have a distinct image that brands them (hence the face-paint in this video).

Breaking the Girl [Red Hot Chili Peppers] - Tristan Clopet

Love this song! It is one of the fewer-played RHCP songs. This version does justice to an under-appreciated song. Thanks for sharing Tristan. Oh, for more info about this artist, www.tristanclopet.com

Guitar Thrill Thursday: 38 Years Old - The Tragically Hip

One of the most popular bands in Canada, The Tragically Hip has proven to be an awesome force in my appreciation of rock music. They are underappreciated in the U.S. Hopefully, a taste of this song will help you all get to know them. Guitarist Rob Baker has an original style that makes my fingers feel like feathers in a funnel. Anyway, enjoy the solo at the end of this song. He uses a slide for the whole thing and plays a PRS—a winner in my book.

Delicate [Damien Rice] - Shagpile

Shagpile. You heard me right. And if you heard Shagpile right, you know that he is a great singer that has chosen to share some of his favorite songs in cover versions! Hope you enjoy Delicate by Damien Rice, one of my favorites by Damien.

Monday Morning Piano Moment: Coldplay - The Scientist

Yup, this is the first song that I heard by Coldplay. Still one of my favorites. It is beautiful and meaningful. I hope that you enjoy this morning’s piano moment.

Guitar Thrill Thursday: Lady Picture Show - Stone Temple Pilots

I love this band. Lady Picture Show is a nice, slower tune with a great guitar solo. Enjoy the wondrous sounds of a band from which we didn’t get to hear enough, although I did enjoy their new album.

Ante Up [M.O.P.] - Bert & Ernie

My brothers-in-law showed me this last weekend. We all died laughing, then came back to life laughing! Hope you enjoy it! (The video isn't showing up as widescreen on my page, so if you want to get the full effect, watch it on youtube (right click on the video and click "watch on youtube.))

Guitar Thrill Thursday: Alex Lifeson Tribute

I came across this tribute-type video that is just a compilation of some great Alex Lifeson (of Rush) solos. I thought they were some pretty good selections (although this person only chose songs from the 80’s).

Don't Stop Believing [Journey] - Kurt Hugo Schneider

Glee recently used this song on their show. Now this guy named Kurt Hugo Schneider did it all by his lonesome! Very cool, if you are into this type of genre. My favorite comment in the comment section is this: "So Justin Bieber gets a million dollar record deal and this guy gets nothing? That's bulls***........."

I don't know much about Justin Bieber (disclaimer)

Toxic [Britney Spears] - VersaEmerge

I first heard VersaEmerge on one of the Take Action! compilation albums. I was immediately a fan. Consequently, I came across this great cover version of a modern pop classic. For more VersaEmerge cover songs, check out the latest Punk Goes . . . album (Punk Goes Classic Rock) where they perform Paint it Black by The Rolling Stones. Have fun!

Monday Morning Piano Moment

Very beautiful tune here. I’m becoming a fan of Augustana. This song is from their 2008 album Can’t Love, Can’t Hurt. The singer Dan Layus’ voice is wonderful and the use of the piano is effective. Plus, this performance appears to be at the “Bat Bar.” So that adds a little exciting anticipation to the performance (i.e. when will the bats attack!?)

Guitar Thrill Thursday: Paris Sunrise #7 - Ben Harper

Guitar Thrill Thursday is something I used to do on my family blog, but I'm shifting it over to this Under Appreciated Musicians Blog. Usually I find a guitar solo that I really like and find a live version. But today I came across this great performance by Ben Harper. Enjoy!

A wonderful rendition of the song. Sounds very similar to the original. Well done!

Higher Ground [Stevie Wonder / Red Hot Chili Peppers] - Angel Aguilera & Raoul Aguilera

I enjoyed these two guys so much yesterday that I decided to enjoy them again today! These are my kind of street performers! Wish they played in Provo. ENJOY!

If You Have To Ask [Red Hot Chili Peppers] - Angel Aguilera & Raoul Aguilera

I thought this was fun and different. Street performing RHCP with bass and guitar. I thought it was pretty well done, particularly the bass part and the guitar solo. You have to imagine the vocals though. Fun performance!

Unintended [Muse] - ortoPilot

I haven't posted an ortoPilot cover in a while. He is, as always, at the top of his game in this performance. It helps that the song is beautiful. You must listen all the way to the end to get the full effect of this performance. Enjoy!

Otherside [Red Hot Chili Peppers] - NastyaSambuca

I enjoyed yesterday's video so much that today I am posting another performance by NastyaSambuca. I really like the girl's voice. In this particular song I especially like the guitar part they came up with. Great song!

New Born [Muse] - NastyaSambuca

I enjoyed the female vocal on this.

Lucky [Jason Mraz] - Louise Peach and Nolan Frendo

Wow! I love these two! I hope that they keep posting new videos. The voices blend quite well and, of course, they've chosen another excellent song.

Big Me [Foo Fighters] - Kzma

Wonderful chance for a Friday Flashback to the 90's. This song was a big deal in 1995, trust me. The music video was outstanding. Anyway, I just loved the way Kzma transcribes it for the ukulele. Enjoy!

Don't Look Back In Anger [Oasis] - kevinkrouglow

This may be better than the Of Dust and Nations cover Mr. krouglow recorded. Just a great song.

Living After Midnight [Judas Priest] - Harvey Drive

These guys are awesome. Seriously, the guitarist is 11 years old. Simple as that.

Great song choice too. Classic.

Devotion and Desire [Bayside] - Grindian

Another cover from our favorite Grindian! I admire his song choices almost as much as his sideburns.

Thursday, February 4, 2010

Violet Hill [Coldplay] - Emilius22

I love this song. The instrumental version is nice. Emilius does a great job here! Enjoy! And sorry for a few days with no music posted here.

The Artist In The Ambulance [Thrice] - Dustin Kensrue

Amazing. I love the acoustic versions of Thrice songs. You do too.

Thursday, January 21, 2010

Volcano [Damien Rice] - Louise Peach & Nolan Frendo

This was a wonderful surprise! After filtering through several sub-par Damien Rice covers this afternoon, I came across this treat. Nolan's voice surprised me with its intensity. Louise added perfect harmonies. I'll be looking for more from these guys soon I'm sure.

No Diggity [Blackstreet] - tsb2011

I never get tired of this song. And tsb2011 definitely brings it home with this great acoustic performance! Enjoy.

Melting Point Of Wax [Thrice] - BionicPianoMan

As always, I was convinced to post this video about 30 seconds into it. That is the norm with the BionicPianoMan. Hope you all enjoy this one!

I Could Have Lied [Red Hot Chili Peppers] - tommyknox99

This is definitely an under appreciated song. The performance is good, particularly the guitar. tommyknox99 runs a blog for tabs and tutorials: http://tommyknox.weebly.com/ Enjoy!

D'Yer Maker [Led Zeppelin] - 311

This is one of my favorite live concerts (311-day 2004). These guys planned to play for 3 hours and 11 minutes but ended up going for over 5! That's stamina! Here is a little taste of the concert.

Viva la Vida [Coldplay] - VV Brown

I enjoyed this. The woman here has a deep, but good voice. I thought they pulled off the song nicely.

Thursday, January 7, 2010

Buddy Holly [Weezer] - Good Old War

This is fun. Three voices, one guitar, and Buddy Holly. Very well done Good Old War.

Wednesday, January 6, 2010

Pinball Wizard [The Who] - The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain

Incredible! A performance of Pinball Wizard in the Royal Albert Hall! I was expecting the Ukuleles to play a role in this song, but as it turns out they do it all a cappella. Very fun! Enjoy!

Tuesday, January 5, 2010

Of Dust And Nations [Thrice] - kevinkrouglow

It's nice to hear an original interpretation of a Thrice song. I don't know of an acoustic version of this song that Thrice has made available, so to me this was fun to hear. Especially as it accompanied me eating my pot pie.

Stay (Wasting Time) [Dave Matthews Band] - Ruben Santos

Ruben Santos believes that Dave Matthews is the greatest acoustic performer of all time. I agree with him that Dave is one of the greats on the acoustic! Here he (Santos) performs Stay (Wasting Time) and does a great job of it too! Happy Monday!
